Living with Less Space

Apartments, dorms, one bedroom lofts, studios… there are many living arrangements you might find yourself in that are limited by space.

Less is not always a negative thing // Boundaries force you to make decisions.

When you are limited by physical space and size, you are forced to eliminate the excess and zero in on the most important things to you- both functionally & personally. This can be quite uncomfortable in the beginning. In time, it produces wonderfully meaningful spaces.

Instead of furnishing and decorating a huge home with more space than you need, you can thoughtfully choose high quality and lasting pieces you will use and love every day. It also forces you to avoid the “just in case” purchases, which ultimately saves you money as well as mental & physical space.

Being selective about the items that are in your home comes down to the balance of functionality and beauty. You want your pieces of furniture, storage, and decor to serve a purpose as well as delight you when you see them.

Some folks are limited by space due to living in the heart of a busy city, others are limited by the sheer number of bodies living in their home, others by budget, and some by choice and preference. Our own lead organizer & consultant, SK, wrote a very insightful and heartfelt piece on her blog we’d encourage you to read.

“Living small has forced me to become more creative, and I actually think our home is better because of it.”
-SK (Kevin & Kate)
