We thought it would be fun to share some of our very own organizers holiday traditions. We hope these personal blurbs spark some fun ideas and create meaningful memories for you and your family. What a gift to hold these nostalgic traditions and treasures so dear to our hearts. Enjoy!

“Santa” leaves us the first present outside our bedroom door, we (my siblings and I) all wake up one another and take them to my parents bed to open all together. Partially my mothers strategy to keep us in bed as I was terrified I would run into Santa in the hallway.

We celebrate Saint Nick day on December 5th, which is a German tradition where children leave a shoe outside their bedroom door that night and in the morning it’s filled with small treats. I usually do a pair of Christmas socks, an orange and their favorite candy, and we are still celebrating even with kids living outside of our home.

We do a scavenger hunt for presents and also have a “12 days of Christmas” thing to do or something special those last 12 days leading to Christmas Day.

When my mom was alive, we would open presents in the morning, but we’d always save a couple for after dinner. Now we do them all after dinner which to us makes it feel like Christmas all day long.

We always have Monkey Bread between opening stockings and Santa gifts (yes, he still comes to our house)! Also, we open family presents on Christmas Eve, which usually consists of the things my kids asked for. They go to bed not having any clue what Santa is bringing the next morning - it's all surprises! Santa brought gifts that were less expensive and fun surprises. We wanted the big gifts to be from us, especially since my kids went to schools with kids who were Angel Tree recipients who weren't likely getting big gifts from Santa. It really upped the element of surprise on Christmas morning!

My kids put on a short play about Jesus’ birth while my mom narrates from the Bible. It’s super cute and helps us remember why we are celebrating. Christmas Eve night we read “the night before Christmas” and at the end of the story my dad is outside and rings these old bells and says HOHOHO and the kids scream and run to their beds. It’s a favorite all around.

My mom brings hand chimes and we sit around the room and sing carols together.

We give 3 gifts to each kiddo (like the wise men who brought 3 gifts to Jesus). 1 gift that encourages them to be outside/active, 1 gift that grows their mind/education, 1 gift that fits their unique personality or something that they’d love.

On the day after Thanksgiving, our immediate & extended family bundle up & go to Lucky Dog Tree Farm to pick out our tree. Then we reconvene at Schulz Brau for hot mulled wine in their festive Biergarten.
What holiday traditions do you celebrate?
It’s never too late to start a new one… just make sure it brings joy & meaning to your life, not another “thing” to do in a busy season.
