Why it matters to lovingly tend to your home...

We believe organizing is an act of care - for yourself & your space.

For us, it’s not about perfectly color coordinated closets or fancy bins and labels… it’s about tending to what you have. As professional organizers of course we love order and simplicity, but what we hope sets us apart is the way we listen to our clients unique needs/desires/preferences so that we can empower them to actually live well in their home. Our organizers love helping clients creatively use what they have, rethink their spaces, and make solid decisions about letting go of excess.

Often when we are helping folks prepare & pack for a move, they are faced with the reality of how much stuff they have accumulated over the years. We hear "I didn’t even know we still had that” or “I haven’t used that in years” often. In our busy day to day lives, it’s difficult to slow down, take inventory, and show loving attention to the belongings that fill our home. While life transitions like moving can be a great time to approach decluttering and implementing order, it’s very possible to make a regular practice of tending to what we have. It’s important to remind ourselves of the relationship we have with our stuff - does

What does this look like?

Weekly - Schedule an hour a week to do a quick refresh of the areas in your home you use most. This might look like hanging up random clothing in your room or closet, doing a pantry/fridge inventory before making a grocery list, cleaning out your bag/purse, load up and drop off any donations you’ve been meaning to get to, etc.

Monthly - Choose one area of your home that is a “pain point” and make it your priority. Identify what’s not working & what is working. Do a little research & come up with a plan. Commit to using the 4 box method (Keep, Donate, Relocate, Discard) for each item in the space you are working on. Stay in this area until the job is complete.

Quarterly - Pick a focus area for each season of the year

  • December thru February

    • Wardrobe: includes all clothing, shoes, accessories.. Focusing on individual closets of each family member (or roommate) as well as coat closets, mudroom cubbies and coat racks, bins of out of season clothing, and any loose hats/bags/belts. You can break it down by focusing on one person or closet per month if that helps. We encourage folks to try things on, pay attention to how an item makes you feel, be honest with yourself, keep waht you love, and consider donating your gently used pieces to an organization giving back in our community.

  • March thru May

    • Living Spaces: your family room, play room, den, and any other shared spaces in your home. Often times this requires participation from other family members. Toys, books, crafts, games, decor, keepsakes, blankets, collections, etc. These spaces hold a variety of items often unique to your family and the season of life you are in.

  • June thru August

    • Garage, Attic, Basement, and Outdoor Spaces: pay attention to any items that are falling apart or need repair and take action. The warmer days are a great time to tackle the mysterious accumulation of items in our “out of sight” storage zones. The reality is that one day you will be forced to deal with these things, so why not be proactive and give yourself the peace of mind knowing you have taken care of these spaces too.

  • September thru November

    • Kitchen and Dining Area: assessing the contents that fill your cabinets, drawers, pantry, as well as fridge/freezer. Pull everything out and sort by category, then sort and simplify by getting rid of broken/no longer used items. Create zones and systems for ease of use.

In the same way that our physical health, auto maintenance, and financial portfolios all require continual routine care throughout the year, we believe that your home and the way you use it is worth paying loving attention to. We encourage taking a proactive approach multiple times throughout the year, before something catastrophic happens or you get to a point of extreme overwhelm and frustration.
