As our schedules change and the weather slowly cools down, the way we live in our homes shift too. Our wardrobes, meals, daily activities, and routines are all affected. If you love summer, we’re not telling you to wish it away and skip ahead. But there is something powerful that happens we we pause and look ahead to what is next. We find that there are lots of little ways we can be mindful and prepared for the season ahead.
Mindset First
Before you run to the store and buy a cart full of pumpkins and fall trinkets, pause. How can you mindfully work through the shift of seasons from the end of summer to the beginning of fall. Just like the actual weather takes time to change, we’d encourage this approach in your home. One thing at a time, not an intense overhaul.
Second, Let’s Prep
Declutter - we (unapologetically) always start here. Before we can create order or implement new systems, we have to remove the common layer of excess that easily accumulates.
If “back to school” is a part of your family’s seasonal shift- we’d encourage you to first imagine what it would look like to approach this fall with a plan. Starting with your weekly schedules, get aligned. We encourage folks to create and protect margin in your weekly plans as well, a little breathing room can be very helpful.
If you share space with roommates, proactively discuss what will allow you both to thrive in your space this semester. Setting boundaries and rhythms can help keep things under control in a smaller space.
Finally, Get Excited
There is something beautiful and distinctive about each season. The practice of reflecting can be such a good tool - what were some of your favorite summer moments? Where did you find joy these past few months?
Questions to consider as you anticipate Fall:
What are some parts of Fall that you love?
Are there events/holidays you are looking forward to?
Eager for the increase in coziness and decrease in sweating?
Gearing up for a fun football season?
Ready to pull out your go-to autumn recipes?
Do you love the wardrobe shift?
Need a helping hand in the in-between?
